The Indians are back home and ready to play in front of a sold out crowd tonight at Progressive Field, and prior to the game the team tinkered with the roster with a pair of moves.
The first of which is they called up a pair of pitchers that can help out as the team is still trying to recover from a ton of baseball the last three days in Canada.
The team called up Mike Clevinger as well as TJ House. With two coming up, two must go, as the team designated two throwers, Joba Chamberlain and Tom Gorzelanny for assignment.
Clevinger has spent most of the 2016 season in AAA Columbus, posting a record of 8-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 13 starts (70.0IP, 55H, 22R/21ER, 28BB, 76K, .217 avg). He currently ranks 6th in the International League in ERA, 10th in strikeouts and tied for first in wins.
Over his 6 June starts since rejoining the Clippers rotation he has posted a mark of 3-0 with a 2.36 ERA (34.1IP, 27H, 9R/ER, 11BB, 40K). He made his first 3 Major League starts, May 18-29, and posted an ERA of 8.79 over those outings (14.1IP, 16H, 14R/ER).
House has spent the entire year to date in Columbus, going 4-3 with a save and a 4.45 ERA in 19 games/12 starts (60.2IP, 72H, 39R/30ER, 37BB, 42K). He has appeared in exclusively in relief since June 12, posting an ERA of 2.16 (8.1IP, 6H, 2R/ER) out of the bullpen.
Chamberlain was 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 20 games with the team. In 20 innings he allowed five earned runs, including one homer. Gorzelanny in seven games was 1-0 with a 21.00 ERA, allowing seven runs, all earned, in just three innings pitched.
