After yesterday’s awful injury, the Indians today will be placing catcher Yan Gomes on the disabled list with a right separated shoulder, this according to Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com.
The injury took place in the 5th inning of the Indians eventual 6-1 win over the Twins at Target Field in Minnesota. Gomes looked to have his knee lock up on him at first before going down and hurting the shoulder.
With Gomes going on the DL, the team will be bringing up catcher Roberto Perez, who hasn’t played with the Tribe since breaking his thumb and having to have surgery.
Perez was injured back on April 30th against the Phillies, and has played in just four games this season. He was rehabbing down in Columbus with the Clippers, but now with the Gomes injury will come up and be the backup to Chris Gimenez.
Many Indians fans today are calling for the team to make a deal before the trade deadline to get Jonathan Lucroy from the Brewers, who are 39-51 and 15.5 games back in the NL Central and likely will be open to dealing at the trade deadline.
Lucroy is hitting .303 this season, with 12 homers, and his deal pays him just $4 million in 2016 with a $5.25 million club option for 2017.
Maybe Gomes getting hurt may be the motivation the Indians need to go make a run for Jonathan Lucroy

Oh wow, poor Yan. So, is it Jonathan Lucroy time now? His club option for next year is CHEAP.

So what prospect is worth risking for a chance to win World Series for Andrew Miller, Aroldis Chapman or Jonathan Lucroy? #Indians
