The Indians today made a roster move, bringing pitcher Adam Plutko back to the Major League roster so he can start Saturday’s game in place of Trevor Bauer, who will miss four to six weeks according to Terry Francona.
With Plutko up, the team optioned lefty reliever Tyler Olson back to AAA Columbus. Olson came up when Bauer was first placed on the disabled list.
Plutko is beginning his sixth stint with Cleveland this season, posting a mark of 4-2 with a save and a 4.75 ERA in 9 games/6 starts with Cleveland (41.2IP, 41H, 22ER, 11BB, 29SO, .258 avg).
His most recent stint with Cleveland was from July 28-29. Around his tenure with Cleveland he has recorded a mark of 7-3 with a 1.70 ERA in 14 starts with Columbus (84.2IP, 47H, 16ER, 16BB, 81SO, .158 avg) and over his last 4 outings he owns an ERA of 0.92 (2ER/19.2IP/0HR).
For the season at Triple-A, right-handed hitters are just batting .157 (24-for-153) and he has yielded a .118 (4-for-34) average with runners in scoring position.
Today’s start against the Orioles will be his first since June 30th at Oakland when he allowed three runs in 5.2 innings, taking a loss in the effort.
