Indians Beat Sox Again 6-3 Behind 10 K’s for Clevinger; Three Takeaways

3. A Sloppy Night on Defense

The Indians didn’t exactly look smooth in the field on Tuesday night, as they committed three errors, one of which forced Terry Francona to go to Cody Allen in the 9th with the tying run for the Sox on first.

Jason Kipnis pulled a lazy play by dropping a routine relay from Francisco Lindor in the first inning, and later on it was Mike Clevinger with a throwing error to first allowing a Sox runner to advance.

With the game set to be over in the 9th with two outs, Erik Gonzalez, who came in for Kipnis, booted a very routine grounder that would have finished the game and not made Francona go to his closer.

While the errors didn’t hurt the team in terms of turning a win into a loss, the way that this season has gone this team has got to be more focused and not allow a team like Chicago on a night like Tuesday to hang around with sloppy play.
