The home opener for the Indians is set for Friday, April 6th, and today the team announced their opening day festivities leading up to the first pitch which will be at 4:05pm.
The ceremonial first pitch for the opener will be thrown out by 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Gold Medalist and Rocky River native Red Gerard. Red became the youngest snowboard Olympic gold medalist, winning the slopestyle at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Games.
The Ohio State University Spring Athletic Band will be on hand at Progressive Field to perform the national anthem, and the team will also unveil the 2017 American League Central Division Pennant.
The OSU band will also perform the official rock song of Ohio, “Hang on Sloopy,” live during the game.
The game, the Tribe’s 25th Home Opener at Progressive Field, marks the 118th as a charter member of the American League, and the 26th consecutive Home Opener sellout dating back to the team’s final year at Cleveland Municipal Stadium.
The team will honor all esteemed branches of the United States military, as members of the United States Marines, Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Air Force will present the colors. 250 employees from Progressive, the presenting partner of the club’s Opening Series, will unveil a giant American flag from 50 Star Productions.
Fans can stop by the Right Field District Block Party starting at 2 p.m. for live pregame entertainment, featuring the band Tricky Dick and The Cover-Ups.
