The big news from the release is the team has added a pitcher to the roster, and now will have just two catchers. The pitcher added is Ryan Merritt, who was 1-0 this season in one start, which was against the Royals on September 30th, tossing five innings.
With a bullpen game possibly coming on Tuesday in game four, having another pitcher on the roster makes sense.
As for the catcher gone, that’s Chris Gimenez, who didn’t play in the ALDS, with Roberto Perez playing in all three games over the Red Sox.
Yan Gomes took throwing drills behind the plate on Thursday night at Progressive Field, and is ready to go as a replacement if needed for Perez.
