It’s now officially September, which means rosters in Major League Baseball will get some additions with the last month of the season in motion.
Today the Indians made a couple roster moves, adding some players to the roster on their off day before they start a weekend series with the Miami Marlins.
The team activated pitcher Danny Salazar from the Paternity List, and added new addition Coco Crisp, who the team got in a deal from the Oakland A’s, to the Major League roster.
The Indians also recalled two pitchers, Cody Anderson, Joe Colon and infielder Erik Gonzalez. They also purchased the contract of catcher Adam Moore from AAA Columbus.
Anderson has been back and forth all season, and is 2-4 with a 7.15 ERA in 13 games/8 starts (50.1IP, 73H, 40R/ER, 10BB, 41SO). Around his tenure in Cleveland he has posted a mark of 0-2 with 1 save and a 3.62 ERA in 13 games/6 starts at Triple-A Columbus (32.1IP, 32H, 13ER, 10BB, 40SO).
Colon begins his second stint with Cleveland this year, appearing in his first 3 Major League games in relief from July 7-18 (2.45 ERA, 1ER/3.2IP) before going on the 15-day Disabled List from July 19-August 14 with right shoulder inflammation (activated/optioned to AAA Columbus on Aug. 15).
Around his stint in Cleveland he has posted an ERA of 0.82 in 20 relief appearances for the Columbus Clippers (22.0IP, 8H, 2ER, 12BB, 21SO, .114 avg). Triple-A right-handed batters have hit just .100 (4-40) off him and has yielded a mark of .065 (2-31) with runners on base.
Gonzalez hit .296 (127-429) with 31 doubles, 1 triple, 11 home runs and 53 RBI in 104 games in Columbus this season. He has scored 62 runs to go along with 12 stolen bases. He has batted .333 (61-183) with runners on base and since returning to Columbus on August 5 he has batted .297 (27-91) with 9 2B, 5 HR, 14 RBI in 23 games.
Moore spent the entire 2016 season with AAA Columbus, batting .247 (74-299) with 14 doubles, 7 home runs and 31 RBI in 86 games. He batted .275 (11-40) with one home run, one RBI and eight runs scored in his last 12 games with the Clippers.
He has appeared in 77 games at catcher, seven games at designated hitter, two games as a pinch hitter and one game at first base for Columbus. He appeared in 1 game last September with the Indians and was on the Major League roster, May 1-3, but did not appear in a game.
The team also designated outfielder Collin Cowgill for assignment. The 30-year-old appeared in nine games with the Tribe this season, batting .083.
