Indians Acquire Catcher Chris Giminez from Rangers

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Indians today acquired C Chris Giminez (#38) from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations.

Gimenez \JIH-muh-nehz\, 33, will begin his third stint in the Cleveland Indians organization after beginning his professional career in the Indians system after his 19th round selection out of Nevada-Reno in the 2004 June amateur draft. He is a veteran of seven Major League seasons, spending the 2015 campaign in the Rangers organization, hitting .255 (25-98) with 6 2B, 1 3B, 5 HR & 14 RBI (.820 OPS) in 36 games while contributing to Texas’ American League West Division title (made 18 starts in Sept/Oct and 2 in the ALDS vs. Toronto).

The Gilroy, CA native began the 2016 campaign on the 15-day Disabled List with an infection in his left ankle and began a rehabilitation assignment at Double-A Frisco on April 25 before being designated for assignment yesterday by the Rangers.

To allow room on the Major League and 40-man rosters for Gimenez, C Adam Moore has been designated for assignment.
