Sunday Browns coach Hue Jackson decided (yet again) to pull the plug on starting quarterback rookie DeShone Kizer, this while the Browns were trailing the Tennessee Titans 6-3 in a game they ended up losing by three in overtime.
Kizer has had to have his head on a swivel the last few weeks, as he’s been pulled, bench, reinstated as the starter, and now pulled again, only to now not know again if he’s going to get the start for the Browns in London Sunday morning against the Minnesota Vikings.
Jackson has completely stopped the development of this rookie quarterback, and while the Browns don’t look to be winning many games soon, not allowing Kizer the time and chance to develop might be the biggest setback the team incurs in the 2017 season.
“I thought (QB DeShone) Kizer did some really good things early. I thought he was very team protecting with the football early in the game,” Jackson said Monday.
“Obviously, right before the half, it kind of came apart, threw the interception. All of a sudden, we had an opportunity to score points. We weren’t able to do that after that. We came out in the second half and obviously had another turnover. I made a switch.”
Kizer’s play by no means has been perfect, and there’s many that think he should have either been pulled or even not been given the starting job back so quickly after it was handed to Kevin Hogan for one week.
Those may be valid points, but the way Sunday was going and the fact the Browns were very much in a game with a team leading their division should have warranted Kizer the chance to finish what he started.
Even with the pair of turnovers.
