The Chardon Hilltoppers (10-0) will look to secure their third birth in a football state championship game in the school’s history on Friday night when they take on Tiffin Columbian (9-1) at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium in a Division III state semifinal matchup.
Chardon used big plays on both offense and defense, including a 90-yard fumble return for a touchdown in a 38-6 rout of Canfield in their regional final matchup. The Hilltopper defense forced three turnovers in the contest.
Tiffin Columbian outlasted Parma Heights Holy Name 17-14 despite a Holy Name touchdown return of a blocked punt to pull within 3 points with just over a minute to go in the game.
The Tornadoes are making the program’s first appearance in a state semifinal.
Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm.
