While it will always be labeled “just Preseason”, one cannot ignore the big first week from Baker Mayfield. The national media spent hours last week telling us how great Sam Darnold was for the Jets, two seconds after he signed his rookie deal and took one snap.
We continue to hear about the veteran poise of Josh Rosen, the “Rocket Arm” of Josh Allen and the “versatile attack” of Lamar Jackson. However, for all that hype on the others, Mayfield, though one game, has looked the best. Again, it is Preseason and you can only put so much stock into that.
Here are the numbers for Week One from the six big name quarterbacks to come out of the 2018 NFL Draft. One small point to note, this was the second game for Lamar Jackson as the Baltimore Ravens took part in the Hall of Fame game last weekend in Canton.
While none of the quarterbacks threw an interception, not all of them threw touchdowns. All but one (Rosen) took a sack as well.
Baker Mayfield (CLE) – 11 of 20 for 212yds, 2TD, 1SK
