It was reported late last night that Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie will fight for the inaugural UFC Women’s Featherweight Championship. The title will be fought for in Brooklyn, New York at UFC 208 on February 11th.
Holm is currently on a two fight losing streak since defeating Ronda Rousey for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship. Holm’s last fight was against Valentina Shevchenko which resulted in a loss by unanimous decision. That loss was after Holm lost the Bantamweight Championship to Miesha Tate after getting submitted in the fifth round. Holm will have the chance to right the ship in a big way February 11th.
Germaine de Randamie was a questionable choice to stand opposite Holm. She has a 6-3 record and has yet to win a big fight. De Randamie is on a two-fight win streak however, so that could have went into the decision. In a fight where Holm will seem to have the advantage, de Randamie will have to find some flaws in Holm’s game to use her kickboxing background in her favor.
When the news came out, one person was not too happy about the exclusion of her name.
That would be Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino. Cyborg had been expected to lead the women’s 145 pound weight division when the time came around. Her being left off the history-making fight is more so based off of the argument of Cyborg and the UFC in regards to making weight.
Cyborg took to Twitter multiple times last night to express her displeasure in the fight announcement.
Just 2 months ago there was no girls at 145 to fight. Now they have a girl who's 0-2 fighting for the belt just to disrespect me.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with this new division following UFC 208.
