4. Cejudo Stuck In Neutral- Henry Cejudo dismantled Sergio Pettis for three complete rounds and showed the entire MMA community the type of wrestling he can bring to the table when need be. Cejudo knew Pettis was a talented striker so he elected to stop any thought of a stand-up throwdown. Cejudo finished takedown after takedown to the sound of a unanimous decision victory. After claiming victory, “The Messenger” put himself in a good spot.
The question is, what spot exactly is Cejudo in? After rumors of Demetrious Johnson defending his UFC Flyweight Championship against UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw were all but confirmed by Dana White, one has to wonder where that leaves the Olympic Gold Medalist. Cejudo is obviously open to a rematch against Johnson and even offered to fight Dillashaw if Johnson and the UFC don’t work out the logistics of a fight contract. Even though it was a nice gesture and one that should have been made, neither one of those options will come to fruition.
Instead, look for another fight against Joseph Benavidez. Benavidez has been looking for a way to get his third fight against Mighty Mouse and disposing of Cejudo might be the only and last way to do it. The winner of that fight will get the opportunity to take on whoever comes out of the DJ/TJ showdown.
