Short effective innings were the story of the day between Hoban and Hebron Lakewood in the State Championship.
After a scoreless first two innings, Lakewood was able to break through and score two runs in the bottom of the third, thanks to Alexa Perry’s triple, followed by a two-run homer from senior Brenna Brownfield.
Hoban answered back in the fourth.
Alex Whitmore reached first to start off the top of the fourth inning. Laney Jones had a single that moved Whitmore to second. Chloe Weidrick was able to move her teammates, she even scored Jones.
The score stood 2-1 the rest of the game. With hits and singles, the defense of the Lakewood Lancers was reliable and strong.
Brenna Brownfield was at a loss for words as she spoke about her homerun, she brought in the first run of the game and was able to score herself in her senior year in the state championship. The list of people who can say they did what she did is a small list.
“They are great kids, great people which is what is so incredible about it.” Lakewood Head Coach Criss Nadolson said about his seniors.
The Hoban Knights finish their impressive season with 24 wins and three losses, as Division II State Runner-Ups.
