PARMA, OHIO – The Parma Redmen (2-1) will look to extend their win streak to 3 games this week as they open up Great Lakes Conference play on the “road” against their neighborhood rivals, the “host” Normandy Invaders (0-3) Friday night at Byers Field at 7pm.
Parma is coming off a weather-shortened game last Thursday at Byers Field, where they prevailed 40-0 against the John Marshall Lawyers. The Redmen were lead by their Senior QB Kyle Lyon, who both passed and ran for touchdowns against the Lawyers. Parma built upon on their momentum they gained on the heels of a thrilling come-from-behind victory the week before against the North Royalton Bears. The Redmen had trailed 21-6, before Parma went on to score 30 straight unanswered points to defeat the host Bears. The turnaround was spearheaded by sophomore safety Andrew Shields, who picked off a North Royalton pass and returned it 90 yards for the touchdown. The Redmen could very easily be 3-0 on the season, after dropping their season opener at the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs, 33-18. Parma fought back from being down 12-0 on the road against an always tough Bulldogs team and tied the score going into halftime, 12-12. Parma trailed by 1 point after the third quarter, 19-18. The fourth quarter, however, was owned by Olmsted Falls, on the strength of two touchdowns by Senior runningback Spencer Linville.
Normandy is looking for it’s first victory of the season, as it has opened it’s season against teams with a combined record of 7-2. Normandy opened it’s season as the designated “road” team as they fell to their fellow Byers Field tenants and National Power, the Cleveland St. Ignatius Wildcats, 45-0. In week two, Normandy played host to the Eastlake North Rangers in week two, who ran around and through the Invaders, in route to a 42-6 victory. Last week, the Revere Minutemen road into Byers Field and dismantled an overmatched Normandy team, 56-0.
In order for Normandy to able to hang with Parma, the Invaders will need big efforts from Junior quarterback/safety Ryan Dengler, Senior OL/DL Mike Logan, and Senior OL/DL Mike Francek. The Invaders will have to contend with trying to slow down the Redmen’s explosive offense, led by Senior quarterback Kyle Lyon, Senior running back Bryson Durham, and Senior wide receiver Micah Rivera.
Prediction:
Parma 38 Normandy 13
