Guardians Underdogs In Opener vs. Mets at Citi Field (+125 or better)

The Guardians have a tough weekend ahead of them. Not only are they on the road in New York City, but they’re scheduled to face the heart of the Mets’ starting rotation.

Here are the weekend’s projected starters:

• Cal Quantrill vs. Carlos Carrasco
• Tanner Bibee vs. Max Scherzer
• Shane Bieber vs. Justin Verlander

It would behoove the Guardians to steal Game 1 against Carrasco, who owns an 8.56 ERA and 1.61 WHIP across 13.2 innings. Quantrill, the Guardians’ opening starter, hasn’t been spectacular either (3.97 ERA, 1.35 WHIP). However, it’s not outlandish to suggest he can match Carrasco inning for inning and give his side a chance.

The Mets’ Verlander and Scherzer have yet to hit their strides, so it’s arguably the best time for the offensively challenged Guardians to take their cuts.

Mets (+2000 or better to win World Series) Struggling In First Half

The Mets were among the preseason favorites to win the 2023 World Series. It’s too early to count them out of the mix, but a rough early season stretch prompted oddsmakers to lengthen their price.

New York is struggling on both sides of the ball, ranking middle of the pack or below in several offensive and pitching categories. They’re 5-5 over their last 10, but they won two straight to win their series vs. the MLB-leading Tampa Bay Rays.
