After watching my son play football for Beachwood High School against Trinity, I decided to make the 45 minute drive from Cuyahoga Heights to Dix Stadium on the Kent State University Campus.
Although I have been on Kent’s campus many times, first as an adjunct faculty member in the School of Exercise, Leisure and Sport during the 1997-1998 academic year, this was the first time I had the opportunity to attend a Kent State home football game.
While attending the game, nothing made me more happy and proud than to see former students of mine that I had mentored at another local Northeast Ohio University now doing great things as professionals on the Kent State University Athletic Department staff.
Additionally, the first thing that struck me as I entered Dix Stadium at Kent State was the great crowd on hand.
It was quite impressive and surely shows that Northeast Ohio certainly supports big time NCAA Division I college football.
In addition, it was nice to see so many Kent State University students attending the game and supporting their school.
Also, the facilities at Dix Stadium are beautiful. I highly recommend attending a Kent State home football game this season.
Now a little about the game.
Miami University defeated Kent State 23-3.
Kent State scored first with an early first quarter field goal by Andrew Glass to give Kent a 3-0 first quarter lead.
However, that would be the only points the Golden Flashes would score.
Miami would score the next 23 points to defeat the Golden Flashes 23-3.
The Golden Flashes will next travel to Ohio University to take on the Bobcats on Saturday, October 7th.
