Only 10 days Monsters fans. That’s right, ten days until the first hockey banner since 1964 is raised in Cleveland.
It’s a crazy feeling around Cleveland. One we aren’t used to, but definitely enjoy.
When Stipe Miocic knocked out Fabricio Werdum in the first round to win the UFC Heavyweight title, the Monsters and the Cavaliers were close to winning their respective championships. Both did so, as the Monsters won and then the Cavs, making it a very fun summer to remember. Now as the Indians embark on their quest for a World Series Championship, the good times look to be rolling around again as the Monsters and Cavs are about to start up their seasons.
Cleveland Monsters Goaltender Brad Thiessen looks to commemorate the great moments and teams that represent Cleveland by wearing a custom-made mask with all of the Cleveland teams on it. On one side, it has the Cavaliers, Indians, and Browns represented with familiar faces like Jim Brown and LeBron James featured. On the other side, it has the Cleveland Monsters’ logos.
So, if you didn’t think that all of the Cleveland teams represent each other, take a look at Thiessen’s gesture. Sure, it could just be a cool mask he had made. But, if a player born in Aldergrove, BC, Canada chooses to represent the city he has been with for a year, that has to show you that the sports teams and people of Cleveland have never been closer.
October 14 and 15 is the opening weekend for the Monsters. Go watch the first of two banner-raising nights in Cleveland, as the Monsters kick off the year against the Rockford IceHogs.
