Behind the no-hit pitching of Hunter Gladin, Parma Normandy defeated Cleveland John Marshall 19-1 on Monday afternoon. The Invaders advance to play Strongsville in an OHSAA sectional final game on Tuesday, May 8th.
Gladin, a 6-foot, 190 pound junior, was in command all the way, striking out 10 Marshall batters in the 5-inning game. (By OHSAA rule the game ends when a team has a 10-run or greater lead after five innings.) The only run of the game for Marshall was unearned; a runner who had walked came around to score on a stolen base, a wild pitch, and an error.
Normandy coach Mike Louis was understandably happy after the game. “Hunter is a great kid—a good student as well as a good ballplayer.” Louis was also pleased with his team’s overall performance: “The boys are playing well. We swept a doubleheader last Saturday (vs. Cuyahoga Heights) and, with the win today, we are now 9-8 for the season.”
On offense, the Invaders were led by Anthony Dunn, Jake McItee, and Trevor Zauner with two hits apiece. Logan Wunderle socked a two-run double and had three RBI in the game. Zauner scored three runs and was joined by six teammates who each scored twice. Other than the first-inning error leading to a run, Normandy was flawless on defense.
