The news every MMA fan has been waiting for has been revealed.
Former UFC Welterweight Champion and legend of Mixed Martial Arts Georges St. Pierre had announced not too long ago that he would be returning to fight in the UFC. The return of GSP was exciting news in itself, but fans wanted to know who it would be against.
The answer to that question has been delivered today via UFC President Dana White, as he announced today on ESPN that “Rush” would challenge Michael Bisping for the UFC Middleweight Championship later this year.
The fight will be the first time St. Pierre has stepped into the octagon since his controversial title defense against Johnny Hendricks back in 2013. It will be interesting to see what kind of state St. Pierre will be in after such a long layoff.
The other question most UFC fans have now is what happens to top contender Yoel Romero. Romero defeated Chris Weidman at UFC 205 in what was considered a number-one contender fight and all signs pointed to him receiving his title shot once “The Count” recovered from his medical suspension following his fight against Dan Henderson late last year. Where does Romero land now?
The UFC landscape just changed yet again in what could be another big year for the promotion.
