Furman Gets Walk-Off Hit to Give Captains Victory Over Sky Carps in Extras

Captains third baseman Nate Furman drove in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth on Friday night to give Lake County a 5-4 victory over the Sky Carps.

Tied 4-4 in the bottom of the tenth, Milan Tolentino started the inning running at second base.

After a one out intentional walk to Guardians 27th ranked prospect Dayan Frias, Furman came to the plate with two out and two runners on. 

On a 2-1 pitch, Furman singled to left field for the walk-off base hit.

 

For the game, Furman the former University of North Carolina – Charlotte 49ers standout and Captains infielder, was 4-5 on the night.

Close Contest Throughout 

In addition to Furman’s excellent hitting, the Captains had timely hits which kept the game close throughout the contest.

After the Sky Carps took a 1-0 lead in the second, the 2022 number one draft pick, Guardians 5th ranked prospect Chase DeLauter doubled to drive in Guardians 7th ranked prospect Jake Fox and Guardians 18th ranked prospect Milan Tolentino.

After the Sky Carps hit two home runs in the 5th inning, the Captains evened up the game at 3-3 in the seventh when Milan Tolentino hit a sacrifice fly to right field which scored Victor Planchart from third base.

The Guardians 27th ranked prospect, Dayan Frias hit a home run in the eighth inning to give the Captains a 4-3 lead. However, the Sky Carps tied the game at 4-4 on a home run in the top of the 9th to set up a dramatic 10th inning Captains walk-off victory.

Captains Three Games Back of Fort Wayne TinCaps in Second Half Standings

The Captains have now won four out of their last five games. With the victory the Captains have moved to within three games of second half leader, the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

The Captains return to the diamond on Saturday night to face the Sky Carps for the fifth game of their six game series.

First pitch is scheduled for 7pm at Classic Park and the first 1000 fans in attendance will receive a Jose Ramirez bobblehead.
