Will the Cleveland Indians be the next Cleveland team to join the rebuilding process?
Granted, manager Terry Francona has never been in that kind of situation. As reported yesterday, outfielder Michael Brantley likely will not re-sign with the Tribe.
The outfielder received offers from the White Sox, Phillies and the Braves. Cleveland did have a qualifying offer set for 17.9 million but did not extend the offers to Brantley nor to any potential free agents.
This year was probably one of the best seasons in his career. In 143 games played, he batted .309 with 17 home runs and knocked in 76 runners.
Brantley played a total of 101 games in 2016 and 2017 due to injuries. When healthy, Brantley is a key piece to their success.
Key free agents to keep an eye on to possibly replace the All-Star: Denard Span, Curtis Granderson, Carlos Gomez, Chris Young and Jon Jay.
The Indians will have 12 players entering the free agent market this winter.
