Free Agent LB C.J. Mosley, Who the Browns Had Interest In, Inking with the New York Jets

It was a quiet first day for the Browns as other teams began chatting with and many coming to terms with players around the NFL that will officially be free agents on Wednesday.

While the Browns stood back and watched, a couple players that the team had interest in quickly signed elsewhere, and one early Tuesday agreed to terms that it was well known the Browns had interest in.

That player was Baltimore Ravens linebacker C.J. Mosley a player that would have fit the Browns like a glove at the linebacker spot.

The good news is Mosley is out of the AFC North as he’s gone from the Ravens, but the bad news is he’s not coming to Cleveland, but instead is heading to the New York Jets.

The Jets are backing up the Brinks truck for Mosley, giving him a massive five-year, $85 million deal with $51 million guaranteed.

The deal will pay him an annual average value of $17 million per year, the most money committed to an inside linebacker in the NFL.

Mosley isn’t the first linebacker that the Jets nabbed from the Browns that they had reported interest in, late on Monday it came out New York came to terms to ink former Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr.

Barr was with the Vikings over the last five seasons, starting 71 games, making appearances in four Pro Bowls.

Mosley isn’t the only linebacker that the Ravens lost in the first day that teams could talk to players, as longtime Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs is leaving the 2018 AFC North Champions, as he’s inking a deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

As for the Browns, there’s plenty of good players still on the board in free agency, it remains to be seen if John Dorsey and the team can pull the trigger today on any or a few of those players.
