CLEVELAND – The Indians won one for Tito Francona last night, and while they are trying to make it two in a row for him at Progressive Field tonight against the Rangers, they should have their skipper back for game three of the four-game set.
The manager, who left Monday’s game with an illness, is back at home recovering after undergoing tests which showed no serious health issues.
“Tito actually wanted to come back to the ballpark today. I told him he can’t,” Indians President Chris Antonetti said via Jordan Bastian of MLB.com
Monday was the second time in 2017 that Francona had to leave a game early, doing it as well against the Los Angeles Dodgers back on June 13th.
As always, Francona kept his sense of humor during the ordeal, stating in the Indians press release updating his condition on Tuesday a joke aimed at good friend and current acting manager – Brad Mills.
“Mr. Francona also wanted to express that medical personnel have not yet ruled out an allergy to Bench Coach Brad Mills.”
