2. Kane – Speaking of fitting ends for both careers, Kane would have also been a great candidate for breaking the streak also. He is one half of The Brothers of Destruction with his half-brother, The Undertaker. They have been to the mountain top together, capturing the WWE and WCW Tag Team Championships on multiple occasions.
He made his debut in the WWE in 1997 during the first Hell In A Cell match to cost Undertaker the match and it’s been a wild ride ever since. Kane and Undertaker also competed on the Grandest Stage of Them All on a couple of occasions as well, including at Wrestlemania XIV and again at Wrestlemania XX. There’s not a doubt in my mind that Kane could have ended the streak and both him and the Undertaker could retire quietly, while they both become immortalized in the world of the WWE.
3. CM Punk – Punk is an interesting pick to me. He was an extreamely talented superstar during his time with the WWE; very underrated and underappreciated during his time there also. It’s no secret that Punk doesn’t know how to make his presence be known. True fans were there when Punk dropped the infamous ‘pipe bomb,’ venting his frustrations with the company on a televised Monday Night Raw in 2011. After this and a series of events, it was announced in 2014 his departure with WWE.
A far as the Undertaker is concerned, he was one of the last people to compete against the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 29 before the Streak was broken.
If CM Punk broke the streak, that win would have elevated his status as a superstar. Guaranteed.
If CM Punk broke the streak it would have shot him to the front of the line as far as Hall of Fame candidacy, combined with his already decorated career inside and outside of the WWE. Granted, even without the win at Wrestlemania 29, he was able to achieve superstardom by following his own path. I just know that if Punk got the job done, he’d probably would still be with WWE today.
4. Seth Rollins – There were many great history making heels before Seth Rollins. Randy Savage, Randy Orton, The Iron Sheik, Edge, list goes on. However, Rollins has some great moments in history under his belt as well. From his debut to the WWE with The Shield at Survivor Series in 2012, to him making history at Wrestlemania 31 by becoming WWE World Heavyweight Champion for the first time by cashing in the Money in The Bank briefcase, Rollins has definitely established himself as a hell so far in the WWE.
Seth Rollins is the only person on my list who hasn’t competed against the Undertaker at all, at least not on a Wrestlemania scale and also not for the opportunity to break the streak. But, if granted the opportunity and he actually succeeded, I picture a ‘cheat to win’ type of setting. The Streak-breaking win against The Undertaker would make him the ultimate heel, solidifying his status in the WWE and forever making him the one we ‘love to hate’.
