1. Trading Down in the 2016 NFL Draft
When it came to the 2016 NFL Draft, it was all about two quarterbacks that many were back and forth on, Jared Goff and Carson Wentz. The Los Angeles Rams, who moved up to one in a deal with the Titans, liked Goff, meaning that the Browns, at number two, could have Wentz if they wanted him.
Instead, Brown moved the number two pick of the draft to the Philadelphia Eagles, and in return got a slew of picks. They got the 8th pick in the first round, a third-round pick (77th overall) and a fourth-round pick (100th overall) in the 2016 draft, a first-round pick in 2017 and a second-round pick in 2018.
The picks turned into the following for the Browns – WR Corey Coleman, OT Shon Coleman, QB Cody Kessler, WR Ricardo Louis, S Derrick Kindred, WR Jordan Payton, OG/OT Spencer Drango, S Jabrill Peppers, QB DeShone Kizer, Houston’s first-round pick in 2018 and Philadelphia’s second-round pick in 2018.
The Eagles – they are 11-2 and Wentz after learning the hard way in 2016, has thrown for 29 touchdowns and six interceptions this season, throwing for 3005 yards and a QB rating over 100.
What would the Browns be like with Wentz? No one will ever know, but it’s a debate that will rage forever no matter how good or bad Wentz ends up being in his NFL career.
