Four Buckeyes Honored as a Big Ten Conference Distinguished Scholar

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2022-23 academic achievements of the Ohio State football team were capped today by the announcement that four Buckeyes were honored with a Big Ten Conference Distinguished Scholar Award for having an overall grade point average in the past year of at least 3.70. Those four are:

• WR Kam Babb, who has graduated with his degree in kinesiology;
• OG Donovan Jackson, a sophomore majoring in sport industry;
• LS Max Lomonico, a sophomore majoring in human development and family science; and
• P Jesse Mirco, a sophomore majoring in sport industry.

Distinguished Scholars for the 14 member institutions were named across 38 different sports.

The four Buckeyes headline a total of 55 Ohio State football student-athletes who achieved academic recognition this year by either graduating, or by being named a Distinguished Scholar, an Academic All-Big Ten honoree or an OSU Scholar-Athlete.

The 2022-23 academic calendar featured 63 and 54 football student-athletes with at least a 3.00 grade point average for the spring and fall terms, respectively, and a program-wide GPA of 3.03 this spring.

In addition, data released in May for the NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) shows the football program with its highest ever APR score of 993. The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for academic eligibility, retention and graduation.
