As you watch highlights of the upcoming World Series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Texas Rangers over the next week, you may hear a familiar voice. That is because one of Northeast Ohio’s favorite former knuckleball pitchers, Tom Candiotti, who is considered one of the top 10 MLB knuckleball pitchers of all-time is currently a part of the Arizona Diamondbacks radio broadcast team.

After retiring from the MLB in 1999 as a pitcher for the Cleveland Indians, Candiotti began a sports broadcasting career in radio and television.

While with ESPN from 2001-2005, Candiotti was part of the Baseball Tonight broadcast and a TV analyst for MLB games. Concurrently, Candiotti was also an analyst on TV for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Since 2008, Candiotti has been part of the Arizona Diamondbacks radio broadcast team with Greg Schulte.

As a knuckleball pitcher in the MLB, Candiotti pitched for 16 seasons and had a career record of 151-164 and a 3.73 ERA.

Specifically, for the Cleveland Indians, Candiotti pitched seven seasons and had a record of 73-66 with a 3.62 ERA.

Candiotti’s best season with the Cleveland Indians was in 1991 when he started 15 games and was 7-6 with a 2.24 ERA.  However, midway through the season Candiotti was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays where he was 6-7 with a 2.98 ERA. With the Blue Jays in 1991, Candiotti pitched two games in the American League Championship Series against the Minnesota Twins.

Candiotti returned to Cleveland in 1999 to finish his playing career.

The World Series starts tonight at 8:05pm on Fox.
