Former Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens wide out Michael Jackson was killed in a motorcycle accident Friday in his hometown of Tangipahoa, Louisiana.
Police told ESPN that the 48-year-old “was traveling at a high rate of speed around 1 a.m. Friday when it crashed into a car that was backing out of a parking space and into both lanes of the highway, police said.”
The former Browns receiver hit the drivers side door and both he and the driver of the car were killed.
“Today, our hearts are saddened by the awful news involving Michael,” Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said. “He was a vibrant person who became one of the first Ravens heroes and a popular player among Baltimore fans. Well known for his big smile and welcoming nature, it was easy to feel a special connection with Michael.”
Jackson was the star wide out for the Browns during the early part of the Bill Belichick era in the early 1990’s. The now Patriots coach put out a statement regarding Jackson’s death Friday evening.
