January 25 featured some incredible Girls Basketball games around Northeast Ohio.
4 games in our coverage area went to overtime, one of which went to double OT.
We’d like to highlight players and teams that took part in those epic matches.
1. Magnificat defeated Hoban 66-57 in OT on the road. Sara Spicer (19 points) and Abby Adler (17 points) led the way, improving the Blue Streaks’ record to 9-7 on the season. It was all tied up at 53 heading into overtime, but Magnificat outscored the Knights 13-4 to come away with a hard-fought victory.
2. Clearview (4-10) won its third contest out of its last four games, defeating Brooklyn 58-55 in a PAC showdown, which went to overtime. The Clippers, who started the season 1-9, received a season-high 32 points from junior guard Brandyce Smith, who is averaging over 15 points per game on the season. Vanecia Billings added 18 points in the win for Clearview. The Clippers have climbed out of last place in the PAC Stripes Division and are now tied for third.
3. Amherst Steele (13-3, 11-2) continued its impressive season with a 90-85 barn-burner against SWC rival North Ridgeville. IUPUI commit Sydney Roule dropped 41 points in the victory. Isabella Geraci scored 35 in the loss for the Rangers. Amherst Steele is only one game behind Berea-Midpark for first place in the SWC and the two teams square off in less than one week.
4. Elyria Catholic (14-2, 8-0) remains unbeaten in Great Lakes Conference play, after surviving a scare against rival Holy Name. The Panthers defeated the Green Wave, 40-39, thanks to a 17-point performance from senior Nora Hopkins.
5. Lutheran West (12-3, 9-1) continues to lead the PAC Stripes Division, after a big win over conference rival Fairview, as the Longhorns defeated the Warriors, 53-39. Raiyah Johnson led the Longhorns with 14 points. Lutheran West has now won six games in a row.
