Monday Night RAW from Columbus, Ohio was mostly a filler show that didn’t do very much to advance anything, but then again what do you expect for a show on the 4th of July when most of America could care less about the WWE product on a major holiday.
With that, there was a few things that can be thrown out from the show, with a couple positives as well a negatives. So here’s our ‘Five Monday Night RAW Takeaways’ from the 4th of July edition.
1. I Feel Bad for the Paying Customers in CBus
If you haven’t been to a live Monday Night RAW these days, the tickets are not exactly cheap. Two tickets on the floor in the first couple rows can run close to $200 face value after fees and all the other junk that Ticketmaster charges you with. It makes it even worse when you pay good hard earned money, and the end of the show, which is usually the best part, is a underwhelming 16-man junk tag match featuring a number of guys that usually are in mid-card feuds. Of course it was a no-brainer on the 4th of July that ‘Team USA’ was going to win, it was just a total lackluster way to end an underwhelming show.
2. The Return of ‘Excuse Me!’
It’s always fun to bring back a blast from the past, and the company did that Monday with the return of Vicki Guerrero for a quick return to ‘try out’ as SmackDown GM. Most of these returns by former members of the roster have been done with comedy in mind, but no matter it’s always great to see some of the WWE’s favorites from the past come back. Guerrero was a woman who wasn’t expected to have much of an impact after her husband’s passing in 2005, but instead was a big part of the company before walking away on her own last year.
3. Brock’s SummerSlam Opponent Announced on SmackDown
Yes, in trying to get more eyes on SmackDown in advance of the draft in a few weeks, they are going to announce who will take on Brock at this year’s SummerSlam in Brooklyn. Why do I have a feeling it could be a total wild card in the ring with Brock at SummerSlam? At first I thought it would be whoever walked out of BattleGround with the WWE Title, but now that doesn’t sound like that will be the case. How about a
4. Cena-Styles is Going to be a LONG Feud
It seems like the feud between A.J. Styles and John Cena is goingt o last for quite awhile, probably at least through SummerSlam and maybe even through Night of Champions. The two seem to have solid in-ring chemistry, and you add in all the bit parts like the Uso’s, Enzo and Cass and the other members of The Club, and you can have a number of different matches over the next 2-3 months. Eventually these two are going to have to end up in a cage on a PPV to try and keep out the other Club members, which may not be bad in the end.
5. The Vaudevillains – the Next NXT Call Ups to be a Failure
Yes, when The Vaudevillains were called to the main roster, I was excited to see what the WWE would do with them, and how they would be added in the tag team mix. Well, it seems that after Monday’s loss on RAW to the comedy duo of Goldust and R-Truth, we have our answer. It seems once again that the writers of those on the main roster are afraid to give a call up a serious run, and now The Vaudevillains will be relegated to nothing more than jobbers on the scrap heap. They join the likes of Ascension, Neville, Tyler Breeze and more who have been called up, just to end up being used as fodder for other wrestlers.
