MEDINA, OHIO – Friday night’s roller coaster of a game between two undefeated GCC foes was full of twists and turns.
Those who stayed for the ride were treated to an exciting finish, as Euclid topped Medina 43-35. Euclid started off the night with a pair of quick touchdowns, but Medina would answer right back with a pair of their own.
A chip shot field goal by Mamadou Mbaye would make the score 16-14 Euclid heading into the break.
The Panthers, who have state title aspirations this season, ran wild to start the second half.
Euclid running back Jaabir Mujihad would be the star of the show, running for a total of 259 yards and two touchdowns on 35 carries.
He and his quarterback Dion Valentine would extend Euclid’s road lead to 37-14, midway through the 3rd quarter.
At that point, many teams would be ready to throw in the towel. That wasn’t the case with Larry Laird’s Battling Bees.
Medina running back Dylan O’Dear would carry in a short touchdown, followed by an Evan Storey touchdown reception.
Just like that, this was a ballgame.
The Battling Bees would regain possession at midfield, trailing 43-35 with just over a minute to play.
Euclid’s struggling defense would come up big late, forcing four consecutive incompletions to secure a 43-35 road victory.
Euclid (4-0) will have a much easier opponent next week when they host Elyria (1-3). Medina (3-1) will travel north to face nationally ranked Mentor (4-0).
