PARMA, OH – The Elyria Catholic Panthers moved to 3-1 on the high school football season with a solid 47-14 win over the Valley Forge Patriots Thursday night at Byers Field in Parma.
“It was a great team effort by everybody,” EC coach Dave Stupka said after the win. “We’re extremely proud of our guys.”
The Panthers hit on a couple big plays to put the game away, as quarterback Jack Kuchta connected with wide out Darin Guice for three touchdowns, two of which were over 70 yards.
Guice ended the night with five catches for 170 yards (34 yards per catch) with three scores. Kuctha went 7-for-12 for 180 yards with three TD’s and a QB rating of 142.4.
“They made some incredible plays tonight,” Stupka said of his QB-WR combo. “They really broke the game wide open.”
The Patriots trailed 7-0 when quarterback Timmy Captain raced through the middle for a 72-yard score to tie the game midway through the first quarter.
Captain ran for 91 yards on 10 carries, and was 4-for-8 throwing for 61 yards.
The Panthers outgained the Patriots 366 yards to 268 yards. Elyria Catholic was 5-for-7 on third downs.
Elyria Catholic is back at home next Friday as they play host to Parma High.
