Akron, OH – There was a very scary moment during the 3rd quarter tonight at Ellet High School in Akron. Former longtime Head Coach and current Defensive Coordinator Joe Yost passed out on the Ellet Orangeman sideline.
Coach Yost stepped down as the Head Coach of the Orangemen after 38 years at the helm. Yost compiled a record of 234-152-2 from 1979-2016, and led Ellet to playoff appearances in Division I in 1991 and in Division II in 2012 and 2013.
Coach Yost was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and as of this writing there is no word on condition. The game was stopped as Yost was attended to with about 3 minutes left in the third quarter.
Yost is a 1971 graduate of Ellet who earned three letters in football and one in wrestling. He played middle linebacker for Coach McLain and was a senior captain.
Yost later earned a bachelor’s degree in 1976 and a master’s degree in 1984 from UA. Yost retired from the Akron Public Schools in 2015.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Yost family and the Ellet Community.
