Cavs backup center Edy Tavares fractured his hand at practice Thursday and was ruled out indefinitely after an X-Ray and CT scan confirmed the severity of the injury on Saturday.
Tavares did not play in the first two rounds of the Playoffs and was unlikely to appear in the postseason before the injury. However, tbe Cavs are now without a true backup center, as Channing Frye would be the next man up if Tristan Thompson is unable to play.
The Cavs signed Tavares on the last day of the regular season after a couple initial options, Andrew Bogut and Larry Sanders didn’t work out for various reasons.
One of those final roster spots will not be utilized after all the maneuvering done by Cavs General Manager David Griffin.
The 7-foot-3 center is signed through 2017-18 and could see some more playing time next season.
