Dunham shines at UFC Fight Night Hildago Texas

HILDAGO, Texas – It was a wild night in the heart of Texas as both bouts of the CO Main Event ended quickly and brutally. Michael Johnson bounced back from two straight losses to violently defeat the red hot Dustin Poirier by knockout in only 1:35. This knockout was fresh on the heels of a Derek Brunson 1:41 knockout of Uriah Hall in the other half of the main event.

While the double knockouts were everything a Co Main Event should have been, it was a fighter on the earlier part of the card that may have won the most important fight of the night.

Evan Dunham had to face a late replacement in Rick Glenn, but still brought the heat and it ended up being a 3 round war. Abel Trujillo was expected to face Evan Dunham at the event. However, Trujillo pulled out of the fight on September 5, citing an undisclosed injury. UFC matchmakers signed former WSOF Featherweight Champion and promotional newcomer Rick Glenn as his replacement.

Glenn showed that he had a chin of stone and weathered countless heavy blows from Dunham to survive later and not get knocked out from the relentless barrage. It ended up going to Dunham in a decision victory, but both men showed great heart and put on a classic. We haven’t seen the last of Glenn who did very well for himself despite the loss.

As for Dunham, this win keeps him on his gigantic role. He has now won four straight matches and is looking the best he has since early in his career He has beaten Rodrigo Damn, Ross Pearson, Joe Lauzon and now Rick Glenn during the streak. What is even more impressive is the fact that Dunham was coming off a ten-month layoff before tonight, and didn’t look rusty. The lightweight division is looking for some new blood, and Dunham just might be the man to inject it.

The quickest fight of the night came earlier on the main card. In fact, it was the first fight of the main card between Chas Skelly and Maximo Blanco. Skelly floored Blanco seconds into the fight, and then mounted him and choked him out before the fight was even 20 seconds old.

It was the UFC’s first trip to Hildago, but after last night, it is a safe bet they will return!
