ELYRIA, OHIO – The Brush Arcs traveled to the North Park Ice Rink to face off with the Elyria Catholic Panthers; both teams are winless on the season at (0-2-0). In the Arcs last game they got defeated by Lakewood 7 – 0, and the Panthers were also defeated by Lakewood in their last game 7 – 5. This is an early season blue division league game in the GCHSHL.
Elyria Catholic dominated the first period, scoring three goals two by Drew Beck; both unassisted, and one by Sarah Fenik, assisted by Riley Cunningham and Kyle Horvath. Brush was unable to apply any pressure on EC’s goalie until the 7:28 mark in the first period; however, Cory Bluffestone scored their first goal, unassisted. The Panthers outshot the Arcs 15 – 2 in the period. The Panthers led 3 – 1 after the first period.
The second period was a continuation of the first; Elyria Catholic scored four goals. The first goal came in the opening minute and was scored by Kyle Horvatich, assisted by Riley Cunningham and Ryan Sustersic. Drew Beck scored two more goals, both unassisted, giving him four goals on the night, and giving the Panthers a 7 – 1 lead.
In the second period Brush’s Dabid Bryson committed a penalty for tripping, but EC was unable to score with a man advantage and it took Brush until the 7:33 mark of the second period for Brush to get a shot on goal. EC outshot Brush 17 – 5 in the period.
EC scored two more goals in the third period; one by Drew Beck, assisted by Ryan Sustersic and Sam Best. Drew Beck scored five goals and added two assist to give him a seven-point night. The Panthers final goal of the night was scored by Ryan Sustersic, assisted by Drew Beck and Kyle Horvatich.
Elyria Catholics goalie, Kevin Hahn made 8 saves and Brush’s goalie, Mike Kornet made 33 saves. EC proved to be too much for Brush, the final score was 9-1, giving the Panthers their first win of the season.
