Seeking the first baseball championship in school history, Treston Nemeth turned in one of the most dominant performances of the week to lead the Huskies past Heath 2-1 in the Division III semifinals. The senior right-hander turned in a complete game, four-hit gem, and drove in his team’s only two runs of the game.

Heath would get two of their four hits in the game in the first two innings, but Nemeth got inning-ending double plays to get out of both situations. After getting a strikeout to start the third, Bulldogs starter Tannar Patterson walked the next two batters, setting the stage for Nemeth. Treston took the first pitch he saw to right center, hustling around the bases for a triple, scoring Leland Lopez and Kaden Jurosko to put Harrison Central on top 2-0.

The Bulldogs would find a little life in the fourth after Kaden Green singled to center and Hayden Woodward drew an intentional walk with two outs. Just like he had done all game long, Nemeth got out of the jam, this time with a strikeout. On the other side, Patterson turned in a great effort of his own, keeping the Husky bats quiet and his team in the game.

Bulldogs Make Late Push

Running out of time, the Heath offense made one final push in the sixth. Hitting out of the nine spot, Conner Toomey opened up the home half of the sixth with a walk and stole second base. With one out, Patterson helped his own cause with an RBI single down the right-field line to cut the Huskies’ lead to one. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Patterson got picked off to end the threat.

In the top of the seventh, Harrison Central would load the bases with two outs, but Patterson got out of it with a lineout to first, giving Heath one last shot in the bottom of the inning. Facing the final three outs of the season, Jaiden Dansby worked himself into a full count and drew a walk. Nemeth shut the door on the Bulldogs season by getting three straight fly balls to end it, sending the Huskies to the championship game for the first time since 1982.
