The Kentucky Racing Commission made the decision after the horse’s morning run. A video on social media Friday seemed to show Forte favoring one side after an odd step.
Owner Mike Repole, a co-founder of Energy Brands that makes Vitaminwater, was said to be “shocked.”
This just adds to the surreal week around Louisville’s Churchill Downs with many odd events occurring. Four horse deaths, a dumped rider and Santa Anita Derby winner Practical Move scratched due to a fever have been just a few stories that have made the rounds this week!
The Derby has now been reduced to 18 horses.
