Delshawn Jackson’s Last Second Layup the Difference in CCC’s 64-62 Win Over Garfield Heights

CLEVELAND – With that one second, Delshawn Jackson knew the ball was going in.

Jackson’s buzzer beater layup was the difference, leading his Cleveland Central Catholic (9-6, 4-2) to a dramatic 64-62 win inside Quicken Loans Arena over the Garfield Heights Bulldogs.

Delshawn ended with 19 points, but before his final game-winning shot came in the picture, he had to thank his twin brother with the assist Dyshawn Jackson.

“It was a big win for us,” Jackson said.

“It all worked because we knew we had to play tough and aggressive defense, thanks to my brother {Dyshawn}, who saw me in the paint wide open and I just put it in.”

The game was fast paced from the start, as Central Catholic led 17-12 to end the first quarter. Garfield started a run of their own in the second period, and led by one with 2:21 to play in the first half.

The game was back and forth in the second half, and finally Garfield tied the game up in the forth quarter when guard Marreon Jackson connected with a long distance three to tie it at 62 all.

Aggressive defense by Central Catholic forced the Bulldogs to call their last timeout with 36 seconds left. That didn’t concern Central Catholic’s head coach Coach Jordan Duke nor his team one bit.

“I had to make sure I keep them calm,” Duke said.

“Nothing basketball wise, I just told them just stay calm and be confident.”

It paid off, as the Jackson brothers came through when it counted the most, with Delshawn hitting the game-winner with in the final seconds to seal the exciting victory.
