It’s been a long road back for Indians pitcher Danny Salazar, but the good news is that he’s making strides towards getting back to the Major League squad.
Over the weekend Salazar threw 1.2 innings in the Arizona Rookie League, striking out five batters in his outing, and his speed topped out at 93 mph according to The Athletic’s Zack Meisel.
Meisel reports that the 29-year-old Salazar will have another outing in Arizona this week and then could join the AA Akron Rubberducks.
Salazar hasn’t appeared in a Major League game since the playoffs back in October of 2017 when he threw 1.2 innings against the Yankees in game four of the ALDS.
Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reports that the Tribe is leaning towards bringing Salazar back as a starter.
In five years with the Indians he’s a lifetime 38-33, and was an All-Star back in the 2016 season when he went 11-6 with an ERA of 3.87.
Salazar has made 104 starts in his five seasons with the Indians, in his last season on the mound in 2017 he went 5-6 with a 4.28 ERA.
