CSU Vikings Fall to 2-7 After 76-67 Loss to Ohio Bobcats

CLEVELAND – CSU, 2-6 overall is coming off a 66-62 loss to the Golden Flashes of Kent State from last Saturday and Ohio, 4-3 overall, lost its last game, 81-68 at St. Bonaventure as well.

Needless to say, both teams were looking for redemption in this matchup.

The Vikings, who maintained the lead throughout most of the half, would control the first half with their quick perimeter passing on offense and stingy defense.

Leading the way for the Vikings would be Rob Edwards with 10 points and 4 rebounds along with Andrea Yates with 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists at the half.

But the Bobcats would find a rhythm late in the half thanks to an 11 point, 3 assists effort from their leading score Jaaron Simmons to take the 36-34 lead at the half.

The Bobcats would continue to gain momentum after the intermission with good interior scoring provided by Antonio Campbell, as well as converting on enough 3 point attempts as they appeared to come out with more energy taking a 7 point lead early in the second half which would eventually turn into a 10 point lead with 16 minutes left in the game.

The Vikings would struggle shooting and struggle with committing turnovers and penalties as the Bobcats would continue to maintain their lead with more interior scoring and a 15 – 4 run by the Bobcats.

With 42 points in the paint and 16 off of turnovers, the Bobcats would take the victory over the Vikings with a final score of 76-67. The Bobcats would be lead by big man Antonio Campbell with 23 points and 10 rebounds, and also getting great scoring performances from Simmons and Jordan Dartis with 13 and 15 points respectively.

For the Vikings Andre Yates and Edwards would both finished with 17 points.

Vikings head coach Gary Waters put it simply; “We have to get better defensively… and I have to figure it out.”

CSU travels to former Horizon League member Loyola of Illinois for an 8:00 game this Wednesday and then they return home to host Belmont at the Wolstein Center on Saturday, Dec. 19th at 1:00 pm.
