The First half was rather uneventful, with a few chances for both teams on either end to make something happen. However, the second half would provide plenty of drama for the fans.
The Crew SC would open things up with a goal from Ola Kamara off a pristine cross from Harrison Afful in the 54’ which would give the Crew SC hope for a win. Tony Tchani would get the hockey assist (or soccer assist).
This season, Columbus seems to let their guard down the minute they score their first goal. However, the goal scored by Fabian Espindola in the 89’, just when you thought victory was within reach, was simply due to him being in the right place at the right time. So it’s not as though he wasn’t contested. The ball deflected off of Will Trapp and Espindola was just in between the defenders at the right moment to catch Crew SC net minder Steve Clark off guard from close range with a quick strike. The game would end in a draw.
Crew SC now with an overall record of 3 wins, 7 losses, and 9 draws and are on the outside looking in when it come to contending for a playoff spot at the moment.
Next up for Columbus is another home match, Saturday, July 23, at 7:30 ET against Orlando City SC. Orlando is tied with D.C. United in the Eastern Conference with 22
