In case you were wondering, your favorite Irishman is waiting for his name to be called.
If you haven’t heard, former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor hasn’t fought since his clash in the boxing ring against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on August 26th, 2016. Since then, McGregor has been seen at parties and top-notch events while many have wondered when he will next step into the Octagon. That is, if he ever would again.
The silence has been broken and “The Notorious” has spoken: He’s ready to fight again. Apparently, he’s been ready for a while now.
McGregor had plans to step in for Max Holloway at UFC 222 to take on Frankie Edgar in the main event. It’s unclear if that fight would have been for an interim title or not, but seeing that fight would have been enough for any fan to buy the card. But for the UFC and McGregor’s best interest, it makes more sense to wait and milk his return for as many dollars as they can. As a result, Edgar is now matching up with rising undefeated star Brian Ortega at the event.
Who will McGregor take on next? Could it be the winner of Tony Ferguson/Khabib Nurmagomedov or potentially a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz? It looks like we might have some answers soon.
