Cavs rookie point guard Collin Sexton tied with Phoenix’s Deandre Ayton as the favorites for NBA Rookie of the Year in the league’s annual rookie survey.
Sexton and Ayton each received 18 percent of the vote from their peers in the survey conducted by NBA.com.
Sexton also finished tied for third in which rookie will have the best career, tied for third as best playmaker and tied for fifth as best defender. Based on the results, Sexton clearly made an impression on his fellow rookies in both summer league and his one year at Alabama.
Sexton has shown an ability to get out quick in transition, and as a point guard on a Cavs team without LeBron James, he will have a chance to make an immediate impact. Based on that alone, it isn’t surprising that he is already in the Rookie of the Year discussion.
