– Let’s not discount the Hoosier gameplan, though. Coach Allen and co. laid out a gameplan that virtually eliminated the defensive line entirely in that first half. Quarterback Richard Lagow showed a quick release that gave rushers hardly any time to pressure the 6’6″ senior. And all those big targets Lagow kept finding with impressive throws, they did not hurt, either.
– While the Buckeye D-Line took the run out of the game altogether, the secondary had its hands full all night long. Yes, they made plenty of mistakes, but when an opposing Big Ten QB throws 60 passes to size-advantaged receivers, it’s bound to happen. Denzel Ward was all over the field Thursday night making plays; batting balls, and picking off a pass. The majority of balls thrown his way were not secured by the opposition. The name that caught my eye, however, is a newbie to the team. Considered a sophomore because of his time in junior college, Kendall Sheffield was one of the highest ranked defensive backs in the country. He fit right in on this Buckeye defense. In watching his coverage, I see a potential shutdown corner. Showcasing so much capability at his young age is a phenomenal indication of the direction this team is headed, as Sheffield is just one rookie of many on the squad who is already making a difference.
