The Cleveland Browns and University Hospitals sponsored the 51st annual East/West All-Star Game at Baldwin Wallace University on June 2.
The East All-Stars controlled much of the first half taking a 13-6 lead into halftime. However, the West All-Stars scored the final 27 points to defeat the East All-Stars, 34-13.
The East All-Stars took a 6-0 first quarter lead on a touchdown by quarterback Charlie Bubonics from Solon.
They scored again with 4:26 left in the second quarter on a touchdown run by Victorian Ford from Warrensville Heights to take a 13-0 lead.
Shortly before halftime, the West All-Stars got on the scoreboard on a touchdown by quarterback Clay Noble from Lutheran West to make the score 13-6.
The West All-Stars scored early in the third quarter on a touchdown run by Holy Name’s Krizton Sanchez to tie the game at 13.
Brady Haddad from St. Ignatius then scored the West’s second touchdown of the third quarter to take the lead.
The West All-Stars scored the third touchdown of the third quarter on a touchdown run by Curtis Starks from Normandy to take a 27-13 lead.
The final touchdown run for the West All-Stars was scored on a touchdown by Coleman with 6:50 left in the game to make the final score, 34-13.
After the game, the MVPs were announced.
The West All-Star running back Deshaun Coleman from Rhodes and East-All Star quarterback Charlie Bubonics from Solon were selected as MVP’s.
“It’s really an honor just to be here,” said Bubonics. “Playing high school football is a big part of my life. I’m going to Baldwin Wallace University next year. I am really excited.”
The Coaches selected for the game were Chagrin Falls Head Coach, John Scott, and Dan Scanlon, the offensive line coach at St. Edwards High School.
Both Coach Scott and Coach Scanlon played in the All-Star game as Scanlon represented St. Edwards in 1994 and Coach Scott represented Solon in 1996.
The next football all-star game in Northeast Ohio is the News Herald Senior Bowl which will take place on Friday, June 16th at Willoughby South High School.
