A LOOK AT WHAT’S HAPPENING
MEN’S BASKETBALL
- The Vikings (2-5) travel to Western Michigan on Wednesday (Dec. 6) for a 7:00 pm contest and return home to host Notre Dame (OH) on Sunday (Dec. 10) at 2:00 pm in the Wolstein Center.
- CSU split a pair of games last week, knocking off Arkansas State, 75-72, on Wednesday night and falling at Kent State, 72-62, on Saturday night.
- Four played scored in double figures in the win over ASU, led by Kenny Carpenter’s 17 points.
- Anthony Wright recorded his first career double-double at Kent State, tallying a career-high 21 points and 11 rebounds.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
- The Vikings (5-2) will once again split their time at home and on the road this week, hosting Ohio on Wednesday, December 6 and traveling to Toledo on Saturday, December 9.
- Wednesday’s game against Ohio will be Cleveland State’s annual Kids Day Game, with over 2,000 Cleveland area grade school kids invited to attend.
- CSU won both of its games last week, defeating Eastern Illinois, 77-69, on Tuesday and winning at Niagara, 70-61, on Friday.
- Ashanti Abshaw averaged 25.0 points in the two wins, including a 30-point effort at Niagara.
- Cleveland State’s 5-2 record marks the program’s best start since the 2010-11 season.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
- Cleveland State continues action this weekend with a dual meet at Ashland Saturday, Dec. 9, at 1:00 pm.
- CSU won the Magnus Cup for the fourth consecutive year in its last action the weekend before Thanksgiving.
- Junior Jason van der Touw won two individual events and was a part of three winning relays.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
- Cleveland State continues action this weekend with a dual meet at Ashland Saturday, Dec. 9, at 1:00 pm.
- CSU finished fourth of 15 teams last time out at the Magnus Cup on the weekend before Thanksgiving.
- Junior Molly McNamara broke the school record in the 200 butterfly, posting a NCAA ‘B’ cut in the process.
WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
- Cleveland State opened its 2017-18 indoor slate last weekend, competing at the YSU Icebreaker.
- Cleveland State’s top showing came in the high jump, with Rachel Wenzel placing sixth with a mark of 1.55m.
- The Vikings will now have a few weeks off before they return to action at the Doug Raymond Invitational in Kent, Ohio on Saturday, January 13.
VOLLEYBALL
- Cleveland State (22-8) wrapped up the 2017 season last weekend, coming up short at No. 13 Utah in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.
- The Vikings were making their fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament after capturing their third straight Horizon League Regular Season & Tournament Championships earlier this season.
- The senior class of Alexis Middlebrooks, Shannon Grega, Gina Kilner, and Katie Mihalik finished their careers as the most decorated class in program history, guiding the Vikings to 87 wins and three #HLVB titles.
WRESTLING
- Cleveland State will compete at home for the first time in 2017-18 this week as the Vikings host duals against Eastern Michigan (Friday, 7:00 pm) and John Carroll (Saturday, 2:00 pm).
- The Vikings faced a trio of foes at the Hoosier Duals this past Saturday. CSU dropped a one-point decision to SIU Edwardsville (20-21), rebounded to easily handle Northern Illinois (28-12) and lost to host Indiana (7-37) to conclude the day.
- Redshirt senior Nick Corba, redshirt freshman Ryan Ford and true freshman John Kelbly all won two matches Saturday. Kelbly pinned his foe from NIU and notched a 17-4 major win over his opponent from Indiana.
VIKING OF THE WEEK
Ashanti Abshaw | Jr. | Women’s Basketball | Cleveland Heights, Ohio
Abshaw averaged 25.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.5 steals, while shooting .513 from the field to lead CSU to a pair of wins last week. Abshaw scored 20 points with three steals in a win over Eastern Illinois and tallied 30 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals in a win at Niagara.

Won a pair of matches at 149 pounds at the Hoosier Duals.
Volleyball Senior Class | Shannon Grega, Gina Kilner, Alexis Middlebrooks, Katie Mihalik
The group led CSU volleyball to 87 wins, three League titles and three trips to the NCAA tournament in their careers.
