Cleveland State sophomore guard Rob Edwards (Detroit, Mich.) was named to the preseason All-Horizon League second team that was announced on Thursday afternoon.
The League’s 10 head coaches, sports information directors and select media voted on the all-league teams and the preseason poll.
Edwards was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman team last year after averaging 12.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He started 30 games last year, the most for a freshman in CSU history, and also logged a CSU freshman record 994 minutes. A three-time Horizon League Freshman of the Week last year, Edwards posted four 20-point games during his freshman campaign, including a career-high 26 point effort at Detroit.
Edwards was joined on the second team by Mark Alstork of Wright State, Chris Jenkins of Detroit Mercy, UIC’s Tai Odiase and Valparaiso’s Shane Hammink.
Valparaiso’s Alec Peters was voted the Preseason Horizon League Player of the Year and was joined on the preseason all-league first team by Jalen Hayes of Oakland, Cameron Morse from Youngstown State, UIC’s Dikembe Dixson and Charles Cooper of Green Bay.
CSU was picked eighth in the preseason poll, garnering 150 points.
Valparaiso was chosen as the League favorite with 385 points and 35 first place votes, while Oakland was second with 337 points and two first place votes. Defending tournament champion Green Bay finished third with 309 points and the final two first place votes. UIC was fourth with 217 points and was followed by Wright State (202), Detroit Mercy (195), Northern Kentucky (153), CSU (150), Youngstown State (125) and Milwaukee (72).
