KENT, Ohio – Anthony Wright notched his first career double-double and Cleveland State sliced a 19-point deficit down to one point late in the second half, but would fall to Kent State, 72-62, at the MAC Center on Saturday night.
CSU fell to 2-5 this year, while the Golden Flashes improved to 5-3.

Wright made 8-of-11 from the field, including a career-high four three-pointers (on six attempts) for a game-high 21 points. He also had two blocked shots.

Kenny Carpenter scored 14 points – all in the second half, adding four rebounds and two assists, while Tyree Appleby scored 13 points with three rebounds. Stefan Kenic scored six points with three rebounds and Evan Clayborne recorded four points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

The Golden Flashes built a 19-point led with five minutes left in the half, but CSU rallied to slice the deficit to 11 points (35-24) at halftime.

CSU got within seven points (39-32) early in the second half, but an 8-1 run by Kent State extended the lead back to 14 points (47-33) with 12:23 to play.

The Vikings began to slowly chip away, cutting the lead all the way down to one point (55-54) on Appleby’s layup with 4:47 to play. However, CSU could get no closer as Adonis De La Rosa answered with consecutive baskets and the Golden Flashes hit six free throws down the stretch.

CSU is back in action on Wednesday (Dec. 6) when the Vikings travel to Western Michigan for a 7:00 pm contest.
